Relatable Post: For the community and the support.

Team Huddle

Our UNM Women’s Soccer Team loves to support other teams from our school, or even in the city.  As a team, we have supported our sports teams as they go through their competitions throughout the season.  We also enjoy cheering on the Isotopes and NM United.
This week we looked into our fellow classmates blog AbqSports, where their goal is to cover our communities sports teams.  Here is a little snip-it from their blogsite: “Our New Mexico United soccer team took on Colorado Springs Saturday and brought home a victory after multiple delays due to lighting. This didn’t seem to bother them as Devon Sandoval had a hat trick for a 3-1 victory. Each delay is 30 minutes long so the crowd had to wait 2 hours before kickoff begun…Although they are on the outside looking in for the playoffs, New Mexico’s soccer team has been a huge success since its creation last summer…Many people are excited and have been supportive throughout the past full year so far. This is a huge test for the state to see if we can support even bigger teams like a team from the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc… professional teams like United are great for the state we live in, not only for entertainment, but for future aspirations. New Mexico has the potential of having a huge professional team and I think we have shown evidence of that. While we already have the Albuquerque Isotopes, who are the minor league team to the Colorado Rockies, New Mexicans are hopeful that one day our United team will become a professional team as we are already posting some great records and are even in playoff contention…Having a team like United here in Albuquerque is great as everywhere you go, you will see a United sticker on a car or people wearing United gear. Sports teams are a great platform to growing communities closer together as we all will gather and cheer for the common goal of our team to win…” (http://.abqsports.blogspot.com).

The biggest aspect that we took away from their post, was the emphasis of a support system.  Having a supportive atmosphere is something every team strives for.  The importance of the impact your fans can have on a game is huge.  Our home games are always enjoyable when you look back in the stands and see your fellow peers cheering you on.  “Sports teams are a great platform to growing communities closer together…” It shows you that you’re playing for something bigger than yourself and your team; you play for a community.
